Thing 13

I just listened to PRE CONFERENCE KEYNOTE, “It Simply Isn’t the 20th Century Any More Is It?: So Why Would We Teach as Though It Was?” The video spoke about the progress made in technology and the idea that we must change education.  Stephen Heppell descibes how the mundane jobs of assembly have been replaced with robots just as the old school will become extinct and be replaced with a community learning.  Knowledge will be acquired through “usness, sharing, and democracy.” It is interesting to hear someone from London talk about the change we need in education.  But at the same time, it is a bit frightening to feel the responsibility, as an educator, to facilitate that change.  The value of the session was the thought that it provoked.
